Scouting Dossier

PFF
Rutledge delivered a steady 2025 campaign, earning a 78.4 pass-blocking grade and 76.8 run-blocking grade while not allowing a sack. He surrendered just six total pressures (two hits, four hurries) His career splits suggest a scheme-dependent run blocker, though, with below-average production on zone concepts (8th percentile) compared to gap schemes (39th percentile).
Strengths
● Broad through his chest and hips, with above-average length ● Impressive athlete on tape and with his testing ● Relies on upper-body power and heavy hands to gain early advantages ● Finds the hip of defenders on drive blocks and unloads ● Seeks out violence as a puller and looks to put defenders on their backs ● Known for nasty temperament (models his finishing toughness after Quinn Meinerz) ● Good-enough recovery skills as a pass blocker and finds ways to stay attached ● Puts down roots with a wide base to absorb bull rushers ● Team captain at both Middle Tennessee and Georgia Tech ● Routinely plays through pain (head coach Brent Key: “I can confidently say that he is the toughest player I have coached.”) ● Started all 26 games the past two seasons
Weaknesses
● Choppy steps and segmented body control when adjusting to quickness ● Upright and will false step at times when stressed, disrupting his leverage ● Inconsistent reacting with switches and gap exchanges ● Almost all his career snaps (98.3 percent) came at right guard (took center snaps during Senior Bowl practices) ● Medicals on his left foot are imperative — missed 2024 spring practices while recovering from injuries suffered in a car accident (Dec. 2023). (Rutledge swerved to avoid an oncoming car, and his car flipped multiple times and landed upside down. He underwent surgery the next day to repair a fractured left big toe. But the bone didn’t set right, and he developed an infection, resulting in a second surgery a month later.)
Projection
A two-year starter at Georgia Tech (and a starter for three and a half years overall), Rutledge was entrenched at right guard in former offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner’s gap scheme. After spending his freshman and sophomore seasons at Middle Tennessee, he became the first Georgia Tech player since Calvin Johnson to earn first-team All-America honors in back-to-back years. He also took home the 2025 Piccolo Award, given to the ACC’s most courageous player. An old-school, throwback blocker, Rutledge has the strength, movement skill and demeanor NFL coaches desire at the position (NFL scout: “If the ACC had a Royal Rumble, (I’d) bet on this guy to be last man standing.”). His big, assaulting hands are a vessel for transferring his power and controlling defenders. However, his inconsistent bend and on-the-move adjustments lead to faltering angles. Overall, Rutledge will have trouble at times protecting his edges, but his aggressive mindset and competitive toughness are the roots of his success. If his medicals are clean, he will compete for immediate playing time at either guard or center (he has been snapping for teams during the pre-draft process).
