Scouting Dossier

PFF
Bernard has developed into a solid, high-floor receiver with good nuance and football IQ, though his limited physical and athletic ceiling projects him more as a depth option than a consistent contributor.
Strengths
● Good-sized target with tight skin and adequate bulk ● Loose in his lower half with strong-striding acceleration (6.71-second three-cone time, fastest at the NFL combine) ● Quick release cuts to gain inside position and separate on digs ● Knows how to sell vertical stem and get on a cornerback’s toes ● Natural ball skills, with the body control to make challenging adjustments ● Gets up to speed quickly post-catch and can make first man miss (17 forced missed tackles in 2025) ● Does dirty work over the middle and runs with toughness to find the sticks ● Productive on wildcat, jet sweeps, motions and screens (5.1 yards per rush, five career rushing touchdowns) ● One of the most competitive blocking receivers in the draft class ● Offers return experience (20.7 average on kickoff returns) ● Mature and carries himself with a professional attitude (NFL scout: “Owned that receiver room and is popular in the program.”) ● Durable and production improved each season
Weaknesses
● Doesn’t have pull-away speed ● Taller pad level in releases and at the break point ● Has physicality to beat press but average suddenness will show vs. NFL competition ● Occasionally misjudges deep targets ● Can do a better job with high-traffic catch points ● NFL scouts say he maintains his weight well but must watch it closely
Projection
A two-year starter at Alabama (and three-year starter overall), Bernard was the Z receiver (62.2 percent of snaps aligned outside) in offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb’s RPO-based downfield attack. After one season at Michigan State (behind Keon Coleman and Jayden Reed), he helped Washington reach the national championship game in 2023 as part of a loaded wide receiver room in 2023 (Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan, Ja’Lynn Polk, Denzel Boston). He transferred to Tuscaloosa and was Mr. Reliable, leading the Tide in receptions as both a junior and senior. At the risk of sounding obtuse, Bernard is just a good football player. He is a good-sized athlete who can gear up and down with ease and plays just as comfortably along the sideline as when attacking the middle of the field. It will be more challenging for him to create separation versus NFL corners, but he is a natural at addressing the football and competes with the toughness to play through contact. Overall, Bernard has a well-rounded, pro-ready skill set, with the frame, ball skills and smooth athleticism to be a dependable target. He projects as a starting Z receiver and as an NFL team’s second- or third option.
