Scouting Dossier

PFF
Haulcy is a true deep safety with strong range, ball skills and an aggressive playmaking mentality. He projects as a starter in systems that keep him in a traditional backend role.
Strengths
● Compact body type, with proportionate bulk and definition ● Outstanding zone awareness and puts himself in position to make plays ● Sees things before they happen and plays decisively in deep zone ● Fluid in pedal and transitions in the middle of the field to cover posts/verts ● Strong hands and does receiver-like things at catch point (10 career interceptions) ● Willing run player, regardless of depth ● Strikes with sticks of dynamite in his pads to create big explosions at contact ● Works well laterally to keep runners from winning the edge ● Zero penalties on 702 defensive snaps in 2025 ● Not a captain but reliable and a good teammate (NFL scout: “Kid loves ball, loves getting better … maybe more than anyone in that program.”) ● Durable and productive all four seasons in college
Weaknesses
● Average speed — NFL athletes will outpace him in space ● Recovery burst is mediocre when attempting to make up ground ● Not a long player, which shows at times in man-cover situations ● Plays with wild tendencies when closing as a tackler ● Runs through ball carriers with his shoulder rather than wrap-tackling, which leads to misses ● Will run himself into blocks at times — needs to widen his scope ● Rarely used as a blitzer ● Played the 2025 season at 224 pounds; looks more comfortable when under 220 pounds
Projection
A one-year starter at LSU (and four-year starter overall), Haulcy played one high and to the boundary in two-high shells for defensive coordinator Blake Baker, while also lining up as a big nickel and taking some reps in the box. A well-traveled college player, he was productive for five defensive coordinators over three stops (New Mexico, Houston, LSU) and quickly adapted to new surroundings and schemes. Despite not arriving in Baton Rouge until a few months before the 2025 season, he led the Tigers in tackles per game (7.3) and interceptions (3). Haulcy was given the nickname “Mr. Give Me That” in high school because of his ability to create turnovers, which then translated to the college game. With very little hesitation in his reactions, he displays outstanding instincts to bait throws and get early takeoffs to close on routes. He covers a ton of ground and looks just as comfortable in the deep half as he does near the box. His tackling and block evasion need to be cleaned up, but he is more than willing to stick ball carriers. Overall, Haulcy has some wild tendencies. Given his recognition and range, though, teams will be comfortable betting on him to reach his ceiling as an NFL starter. Teams will also appreciate his coachability and intangibles, which will show on special teams. 581 Back to table of contents -- 585 of 629 --
