Red Flags (2)

Extracted from Brugler background/weakness sections.
injury
  • He was again the backup as a sophomore, until the starter tore his ACL.
  • A technically sound passer with a fluid release, Beck processes well, both pre- and post-snap, and spins an accurate ball when his eyes/mechanics stay on time and connected.

Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Frame is a tad narrow but height/weight looks like that of an NFL quarterback ● Accurate placement on slants and mesh concepts; shows touch on fades and seams ● Can see baseball background in over-the-top snap in his delivery ● Play-action dropbacks are his safe space (72.7 percent completions, 30-to-4 TD-to-INT ratio) ● Looks comfortable reading out entire field ● Turnover-worthy plays dropped from 20 in 2024 to just 11 in ‘25 ● Very sharp pre-snap to identify pressures and coverages (had full authority to make line-of-scrimmage checks) ● Has a feel for where rush is coming from without taking his eyes off reads ● Plays with competitive comfort that helps him stay even-keeled (called “Cool Hand Luke” by Kirby Smart) ● Georgia coaches say he’s “humble” (Smart: "The players respect what Carson went through to get where he is. And I think he earned that.") ● Georgia’s holder on field goal and PAT attempts ● Played in a lot of big games — finished 37-6 as a starter (24-3 at Georgia; 13-3 at Miami)
Weaknesses
● Average athlete — not much of a threat with his legs ● Some of his throws lack juice; struggles to drive ball if setup and delivery aren’t perfect ● Inconsistent feel for deep ball — puts too much air on some downfield attempts; not enough on others ● Ball placement and decision-making plummet when eyes speed up and he gets flushed from original spot ● Too willing to make throws against his body or lead receivers into big hits ● Cut down on turnover-worthy plays in 2025 but combined for 24 interceptions past two seasons (second most in FBS over that span) 12 Back to table of contents -- 16 of 629 -- ● Fumbled combined 17 times over past three seasons ● NFL scouts say he showed better maturity at Miami — but not a vocal player on sideline or in huddle ● Required surgery to repair UCL in his throwing arm, which ended his 2024 season and sidelined him for 2025 spring ball
Projection
A one-year starter at Miami (and three-year starter overall), Beck was productive in offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson’s balanced scheme. After winning two national titles as a backup to Stetson Bennett at Georgia, he stacked promising starts in 2023 before an up-and-down 2024 (without Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey), which ended unceremoniously with elbow surgery. Beck received a hefty paycheck to transfer to the Hurricanes, and he helped Miami reach the 2025 national championship game — although, his final play at both Georgia and Miami was a turnover. A technically sound passer with a fluid release, Beck processes well, both pre- and post-snap, and spins an accurate ball when his eyes/mechanics stay on time and connected. However, his poise breaks down versus pressure, which leads to forced throws and turnovers (he accounted for a combined 14 turnovers in his six career losses). Though he has some mobility to buy time, he will have a tough time creating off script when facing NFL speed. Overall, Beck is a cerebral pocket passer who can lead drives when the offense stays in rhythm, but he isn’t a proven second-reaction quarterback when things don’t go according to plan. He projects as an NFL backup and potential spot starter.
