  • Orange earned Academic All-Big 12 honors in 2024 and graduated with a degree (December 2025).

Scouting Dossier

PFF
Orange is a massive defensive line prospect with elite power potential, supported by impressive weight-room strength. His first-step explosiveness allows him to generate strong speed-to-power as a bull rusher, particularly in attack mode. However, his hand speed and pass-rush finesse are limited, which impacts his ability to disengage consistently. He projects best as a high-effort, power-based lineman in a 3-4 scheme.
Strengths
● Squatty, dense body type with thick quads and bubble ● Sturdy lower half; absorbs contact well to hold his ground ● Longer arms than most players his height and plays with extension ● Strong, violent hands to rid himself of contact ● Adequate quickness for a man his size ● Trimmed down to 325 pounds and worked well with nutritionists in the program ● Credits the Iowa State culture for “changing” his life after he almost quit football (NFL scout: “Selfish kid who needed to be pushed when he arrived and really grew up mentally.”) ● Durable — played in combined 50 games the past four years
Weaknesses
● Plays tall; struggles to sink and make tackles in small spaces ● Below-average shed timing and late to escape blocks ● Questions about conditioning (tends to shut it down too quickly once a run goes away from him) ● Marginal range — won’t make many plays outside his square ● Straight-line tendencies as a pass rusher; expected more of a consistent bull rush ● Will benefit from NFL structure to keep his weight in a good spot (personal high was 408 pounds as a senior in high school) ● Very modest backfield production, especially in final season
Projection
A two-and-a-half-year starter at Iowa State, Orange lined up over the center as the nose guard in former defensive coordinator Jon Heacock’s 3-3-5 base scheme. A first-rounder in the all-nickname draft, “Big Citrus” passed up offers from Ohio State and several SEC programs to play for Matt Campbell and the Cyclones. He earned All-Big 12 honors each of the past three seasons, and his defensive snaps jumped from 28.2 per game in 2024 to 45.6 in 2025 — although his production decreased as a senior. A two-time “Freaks List” alum, Orange translates his weight-room strength (450-pound bench, 650-pound squat) to the field, where his impact is felt on tape more with disruption than production. Using his long extension, he creates powerful knockback, controls the point and eventually discards blockers, although his shed timing must improve. Despite having a limited range of impact, he played lighter in 2025, and his conditioning is a critical factor in his on-field success. Overall, Orange is an ineffective pass rusher but has the 408 Back to table of contents -- 412 of 629 -- frame and play strength to be an immovable, stout nose when he wants to be. He projects best as a one-technique or shade in a 4-3 scheme.
