Scouting Dossier
PFF
Bell looked uncoverable at times against his level of competition in his final season and, despite below-average size and athleticism, produced like a top-100 prospect as a productive slot receiver.
Strengths
● Adequate frame and upper-body build
● Athletic muscle twitch shows in his route running
● Violent feet and smooth sink at the top of routes to quickly break or work back to the ball
● Did much better job hiding route intentions on senior tape
● Snatching hands and runaway speed make him a tough cover on slants and crossers
● Consistently finds yards with the ball in his hands (Bell and Malachi Toney were only two FBS receivers in 2025 with 800-plus
YAC)
● Tracks and uses his body well to keep defenders from catch points
● Tough-minded and competes with an edge (NFL scout: “The young guys gravitated to him, because of the way he carries himself.”)
● Big-time production in 2025 — led FBS in 100-yard receiving games (seven)
Weaknesses
● A little bit of a coaster — would like to see more route urgency
● Guilty of false stepping vs. press
● Allows throws to get on top of him and attempts to trap the ball
● Same number of drops (24) as touchdown catches in college
● Route drifts will create contested windows at times
● Needs to better protect the football to avoid fumbles
● Pulled left hamstring before the 2021 season and was forced to redshirt his first year at Wisconsin
● Didn’t play on special teams in college
Projection
A two-year starter at UConn, Bell lined up both outside (61.1 percent of snaps) and inside (36.4 percent) in former offensive coordinator
Gordon Sammis’ scheme. After things didn’t work out at Wisconsin, he transferred to UConn and led the Huskies in receiving the past
two seasons. In 2025, he became the first consensus All-American in UConn history. He set single-season school records for catches
(101) and touchdown grabs (13).
Bell has proven that he can handle a high volume of targets. He has a smooth release package and attacks the defender’s leverage to give
his quarterback a window. He is natural at maintaining his play speed through route cuts and stems, and he shows a knack for finding
space after the catch (averaged 8.2 yards after catch per reception in 2025). He needs to fight harder for catch space when things get
crowded, but he clearly listened to the feedback that his hands needed to improve in 2025 (NFL scout: “He wore out the JUGS
machine.”). Overall, Bell doesn’t stand out with his size or physicality, but his route savvy helps him slip past coverage
and accelerate. He projects best as an NFL slot who will fight his way onto the field.
