Scouting Dossier

PFF
Williams is a quick, precise slot-only receiver with strong separation metrics but a low average depth of target. His special teams experience helps support his projection as a depth receiver.
Strengths
● Quick-footed athlete with burst off his plant foot to create separation mid-route ● Glider in space, with enough speed to work vertically ● Efficient on option routes to read coverage and settle in open zones ● Drop rate fell from 9.6 percent in 2024 to just 1.8 percent in ‘25 ● Outstanding body control allows for focused adjustments at the catch point 97 Back to table of contents -- 101 of 629 -- ● Very little lag going from receiver to runner after the catch ● Offers punt return experience (averaged 9.0 yards per return over his career) ● Had combined four non-receiving touchdowns the past two seasons (two passing, two rushing) ● His coaches describe him as “self-motivated” (Dabo Swinney: “He’s as good as we have ever had.”)
Weaknesses
● Non-descript size with mediocre build and body length ● Play strength will be tested quickly vs. NFL physicality ● Can win at the line with his feet, but needs to prove he can defeat jams with his hands ● Tends to drift near the end of routes ● Stopwatch speed is better than field speed (mediocre 5.8 YAC per catch in 2025) ● Missed two games as a senior because of a hamstring injury (Sept. 2025); ankle and toe injuries sidelined him for eight games during the 2023 season (redshirted)
Projection
A four-year starter at Clemson, Williams was primarily an inside receiver (78 percent of his career snaps aligned inside) in former offensive coordinator Garrett Riley’s RPO-based scheme. He enrolled at age 17 and quickly separated himself as an important playmaker. He became just the fourth player in Clemson history with a touchdown passing, rushing and receiving in the same season (did it in both 2024 and ‘25). Williams led the Tigers in catches in 2025 but surpassed 70 receiving yards just twice in 10 games (two of his four touchdown grabs in 2025 came versus FCS competition). Though not overly sudden, Williams is a controlled, fluid athlete and competes with a slow heartbeat. He does a great job reading leverage out of the slot to give his quarterback a target and catches the ball cleanly with his hands. I expected there to be more explosive plays on his 2025 tape (ranked 196th in the FBS with just eight catches of 20-plus yards), but he consistently stood out when studying the Clemson offense. Overall, Williams is a competitive, versatile athlete — and there is more to his game than meets the eye. He isn’t a “slot-only” receiver, but he projects best inside and has some Khalil Shakir to his game.
