From Lee Hunter to Malachi Fields, these were the biggest winners from three days of practice in Mobile The Senior Bowl remains the gold standard of post-college all-star games. I have a third-round grade on him as a defensive line rotational player. -- Reid Malachi Fields, WR, Notre Dame The best player I saw during the American team practice was Fields, who made the catch of the day by tracking a moon ball from Arkansas QB Taylen Green before hauling it in over his head like Willie Mays making a play in center field. Wide receiver Malachi Fields (Notre Dame) was the best offensive player on the American team on Day 1. Scouting Dossier

PFF
If Fields attacks the ball in the air with more consistency and urgency, he has a chance to stick on an NFL roster as a big-bodied receiver with reliable blocking and adequate long speed.
Strengths
● Tall, muscular body type and uses frame to his advantage ● Surprisingly fluid for his size; able to work around press and quickly build up speed (6.98-second three-cone time backs that up) ● Has some sink and snap to break off corners ● Skillfully tracks football in flight and adjusts accordingly ● Comes down with the football when targeted (just three drops over final 25 games) ● 75 percent of catches in 2025 resulted in either a touchdown or first down ● Gives cornerbacks the business with stubborn blocking hands ● Mature worker with strong character feedback (NFL scout: “Practices like he plays on game day … has a professional approach.”)
Weaknesses
● Disproportionate hand size for a bigger-bodied receiver ● Was hoping to see a more expansive route tree ● Needs to show the same urgency on every pattern ● Allows physical corners to escort his route into the sideline ● Has some run-after-catch ability, but it won’t be a strength to his game ● Unimpressive targets and production in 2025 ● Broken metatarsal in his left foot during 2022 spring football, which required surgery and sidelined him for the first nine games of the season
Projection
A one-year starter at Notre Dame (and three-year starter overall), Fields was the boundary receiver in offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock’s scheme. A high school quarterback, he transitioned well to receiver at Virginia before transferring to the Irish for his final season in 2025. His targets and production took a nosedive with a freshman at quarterback (he didn’t record a 100-yard receiving game in 2025), although he produced several memorable plays. Fields flashes both build-up speed and short-area juice, along with a go-and-get-it gear when the ball is in the air. He displays impressive reflexes at the catch point and deftly takes advantage of every inch of his frame to reel in throws. NFL coaches will like the way he uses his hands and feet to gain a step of separation out of breaks, although they will want to see him expand his route proficiency (there is a healthy amount of hitches and go routes all over his tape). Overall, Fields is a big-bodied receiver who presents a large target for his quarterback, using his athleticism and catch radius. He has the talent to be a solid No. 2 receiving option, and his game closely resembles that of Michael Pittman.
