Scouting Dossier

PFF
Coleman may not have the flashy athleticism of a fan-favorite RB1, but his game is efficient, powerful and translatable to NFL success, specifically behind zone-blocking schemes where he can gain momentum and one-cut into rushing lanes. He also brings plus third-down reliability as a receiver and pass protector.
Strengths
● Short, stocky frame with a brawny upper body and dense lower half in his thighs/calves ● Physical, angry runner with power between the tackles ● Doesn’t concede easily because of his body control, strength and low center of gravity ● Adequate short-area cutting quickness and can gear up/down on command ● Trusts his vision and doesn’t run indecisively ● Patiently reads at the line and plays peek-a-boo with defenders on zone runs ● Catches the ball well on angle routes and swing screens (six catches of 20-plus yards in 2025, third most among FBS running backs) ● Built to stop blitzers cold when he squares up with proper technique in pass pro ● Protects the ball tight to his body (two career fumbles) ● Senior captain; described as “charismatic” and “genuine” by his coaches (NFL scout: “The coaches go out of their way to talk him up.”)
Weaknesses
● Not a dynamic athlete — lack of juice is obvious versus fast defenses ● Quicker than fast, and his speed tops out earlier than you’d want ● Tight through his torso ● Struggled to generate explosives as a ball carrier (just 12.8 percent of 2025 carries resulted in a 10-plus-yard rush) ● Short-armed, which shows against long-armed rushers and when adjusting to pull in throws ● Wasn’t a consistent finisher as a runner or blocker ● Transformed his body and dropped 15 pounds during spring of 2025, but scouts are concerned about how much his weight can fluctuate ● Missed one game as a senior because of a left knee sprain (Nov. 2024); wore a brace/sleeve for remainder of the season 46 Back to table of contents -- 50 of 629 --
Projection
A starter for two-and-a-half years at Washington, Coleman was a natural fit in head coach Jedd Fisch’s zone-based scheme. After a strong 2024 season following a transfer from Arizona, his senior year didn’t go quite as expected (4.0 yards per carry over the final 10 games) as he battled a knee sprain. However, he remained a consistent chain-mover (28.7 percent first downs per rush) and monster near the goal line (24 of his 25 rushing touchdowns with the Huskies came in the red zone). With his stout, strong build, Coleman runs with square shoulders, toughness and vision to operate between the tackles. He has a noticeable lack of burst in open space but possesses the lateral quickness as a jump-cut runner to change lanes at the line of scrimmage. Overall, Coleman isn’t overly explosive and his lack of juice is a concern, but he is an instinctive, competitive ball carrier who can absorb and bounce off tacklers. He is an inside runner with value on passing downs, both as a receiver and blocker.
