Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Built like a basketball power forward with a big, athletic frame ● Big, powerful hands to stab throws (multiple “wow” catches on 2025 tape) ● Humongous catch radius to rescue throws and win jump-ball situations ● Will draw pass interference penalties on slot fades and seams ● Moves with above-average speed, agility and balance for his size ● Frequently used on vertical patterns; has experience getting over the top of defenders (11.3-yard average depth of target in 2025) ● Uses body strength to defeat press and separate at the top of routes ● Super competitive with the ball in his hands — won’t go down without a fight ● Effort level as a blocker improved in 2025 ● Productive senior year — one of just six FBS tight ends in 2025 with 50-plus catches
Weaknesses
● Plays high in and out of breaks ● Lacks consistency as a route runner and tends to prematurely reveal intentions ● Doesn’t always play with the same urgency mid-route ● Tied for FBS-lead among tight ends in 2025 with seven drops ● Wasn’t consistently the aggressor at the point of attack in the run game ● Late to lock on and sustain, which leaves him falling off blocks (called for holding against Cincinnati and UCF) ● Battled through bruised left shoulder for much of 2025 season; missed five games as a sophomore at Ole Miss with broken right collarbone (Oct. 2022); missed six games as a freshman at USC after spraining right knee (Oct. 2021) ● Served one-game suspension for “disciplinary matter” at both Ole Miss (Nov. 2022) and at Baylor (Sept. 2024); involved in sideline incident with former Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades in 2025 — Rhoades is alleged to have taken exception to a gold, long-sleeved undershirt worn by Trigg during a home game against Arizona State (Rhoades’ role in the incident was investigated by the university) ● Maturity has been questioned by NFL teams (NFL scout: “I know how much he likes football, but he needs hard coaching … and you hope he develops better consistency, on and off the field.”)
Projection
A two-year starter at Baylor, Trigg aligned primarily detached (72.3 percent of snaps in the slot or out wide) in offensive coordinator Jake Spavital’s spread scheme. He struggled to find a steady role over three seasons at USC and Ole Miss, but he took advantage of the opportunity at Baylor and became the first All-American tight end in school history. A Mackey Award finalist in 2025, he set Baylor single-season records for catches (50) and receiving yards (694) and finished second among FBS tight ends with seven touchdown grabs. Built like a basketball power forward, Trigg is a long, coordinated athlete with the arm length and wingspan that make offensive linemen jealous. He needs to cut down on the drops, but it looks like he’s catching a Nerf football when he “little brothers” defenders at the catch point. He is more competitive than dynamic with the ball in his hands but is a threat for extra yards on every touch (led all FBS tight ends in 2025 with 32 catches of 10-plus yards). As a blocker, he flashes adequate strength but little consistency in his execution. Overall, Trigg needs additional refinement as a route runner and blocker, but he plays with the foot quickness, body control and catch-point talent to be a three-level weapon. Showing NFL teams that accountability isn’t a question will be key during the draft process and early in his career.
