Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Big-boned athlete, with broad shoulders and thick quads ● Strong, physical hand usage to stun, drive or shuck blockers (naturally left-handed) ● Agile footwork and body balance to rip through shoulders of blockers as a pass rusher ● Plays with good pad level to hold his ground vs. pullers or play contain ● Reads backfield action quickly to sniff out screens and misdirection ● Doesn’t have an off switch — second-effort plays are all over his film ● Exceptional toughness, both mentally and physically (youngest in a house of six boys) ● Extensive special teams experience (608 career snaps), including two blocked punts ● Versatile and shifts up/down the line (also used as a fullback in 2023) ● Dependable character (NFL coach: “Staff says he does everything asked of him. … (He’s) well-liked in the locker room.”) ● Durable — played 55 games past four seasons
Weaknesses
● Shorter frame and below-average body/arm length ● Too easy for blockers to get into his body and redirect his path ● Average first-step quickness as a pass rusher; finds himself too far upfield in attempts to corner ● Lacks suddenness in counters, which limits his rush arsenal ● Doesn’t have burst in space to expand his tackling range ● Limited in what he offers as a dropper in space ● Above-average grip strength but lack of length limits margin for error as a tackler ● Only a one-year starter
Projection
A one-year starter at Ohio State, Curry lined up primarily as a three-point edge rusher outside the tackle in defensive coordinator Matt Patricia’s scheme, often moving inside (A-gap and B-gap) on passing downs. Stuck behind veterans Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau for most of his career in Columbus, he became a starter as a senior in 2025 and led the Buckeyes in pressures (46), tackles for loss (16.5) and sacks (11). He also tied Ohio State’s single-game record with five tackles for loss against Washington. Though he lacks imposing size or speed rushing off the edge, Curry flashes disruptive qualities, thanks to his rugged strength and relentless play style. However, it will be tougher to overcome his average measurables versus NFL blockers. His lack of length also shows as an edge setter, but he takes his contain responsibilities seriously by seeing through blocks and quickly diagnosing what an 360 Back to table of contents -- 364 of 629 -- offense is trying to do. Overall, Curry is a sawed-off, face-up pass rusher with a basic approach, but he plays alert and physical, and affects the game with his white-hot motor (his best attribute). He projects as a versatile NFL backup who can be moved up and down the line of scrimmage — reminiscent of John Simon, another former Ohio State edge defender.
