Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Tall drink of water, with long arms and room to get stronger ● Added 25 pounds of good weight after enrolling at Cincinnati in January 2025 ● Elite straight-line speed to gain ground quickly ● At his best stretching out his stride (15.3 average depth of target for his career) ● Large catch radius to pull in off-target throws (see his one-handed grab on 2025 Bowling Green tape) ● Accelerates in a hurry to be a threat any time he touches the ball 122 Back to table of contents -- 126 of 629 -- ● Will throw a stiff arm and attempt to use his size as a ball carrier ● Blocked two punts (in the same half) in 2023 season opener ● Reserved but playful personality and adapted well to FBS standards (NFL scout: “Still a work in progress on the field, but (a) mature, likeable kid.”)
Weaknesses
● Questionable play strength, which shows in multiple ways ● Below-average finisher through contact; crowded windows weren’t friendly (38.5 percent contested-catch rate in 2025) ● Inconsistent dealing with physicality mid-route ● YAC per reception dropped from 9.6 in the FCS to just 3.7 in the FBS in 2025 ● Speed demon but had only one catch of 40-plus yards in 2025 (40-yard TD vs. UCF) ● Clunky and unbalanced too often when attempting to sink into route breaks ● Needs to button up the steps and body mechanics of his releases ● More body catching and clapping habits than you’d like to see ● Production was cut in half after he moved from the FCS to the FBS
Projection
A one-year starter at Cincinnati (and three-year starter overall), Caldwell was an outside wide receiver (91.8 percent of his snaps) in head coach Scott Satterfield’s offense. Still relatively new to football at the time, he was an ascending player during his four years at Lindenwood, including a 1,000-yard receiving season in 2024. He transferred up to the FBS for his final season and had more games under the 50-yard receiving mark (eight) than over it (five), although he finished third on the Bearcats in receiving yards in 2025. A “Freaks List” alum and combine darling, Caldwell builds up his speed quickly and strides out to create vertical separation. He is light-footed with natural flexibility at the top of routes and the catch point, but the finer points of the position (controlled steps, release package, etc.) aren’t on an NFL level yet. Though he worked hard to add weight at Cincinnati, he needs to learn how to play with better strain and physicality. Overall, Caldwell is still underdeveloped physically and fundamentally, but he offers rare length and speed, meaning he potentially could grow into a downfield threat. He will require a patient coaching staff that’s willing to invest in his raw talent.

Freak Notes

  • Feldman-Freaks-2025 · #29
A transfer this year from Division II Lindenwood in Missouri, Caldwell had 93 career catches for 1,722 yards and 23 touchdowns in his career there. He’s 6-4 1/2 and 208 pounds, and he wowed Cincinnati coaches when he broad-jumped 11-9. For context, that’s seven inches longer than any other wideout jump at the combine this year. It also would’ve tied the farthest any wide receiver has ever jumped at the combine. Caldwell’s vertical jump is 36.5 inches and he clocked a 1.50-second 10-yard split. Advertisement
