Scouting Dossier
PFF
Strengths
● Wide-framed blocker, with broad shoulders and burly thighs/calves
● Powerful at contact to plow run lanes
● Uses length as the drive blocker on double-teams, steering his man off the spot
● Mean dude — isn’t shy about working through the whistle
● Nice job framing pass sets to stay centered between ball and rusher
● More consistent knee bend and footwork last season than on 2024 tape
● Stands his ground against different types of rushers, especially massive bodies
● Beloved in the program and earned high character marks (NFL scout: “One of the staff’s favorites … awesome worker and guy.”)
● Fights through minor stuff — started every game the past two seasons
Weaknesses
● Average athleticism and change-of-direction control
● Sloppy tendencies on tape — feet get heavy late in reps
● Puts himself in compromised positions against shifty defenders
● Could benefit from added finesse and patience
● Hand placement needs to find better consistency, both in run game and pass pro
● Needs to be quicker dissecting late pressures and stunts
● Torn left ACL (March 2021), which sidelined him for 2021 season
● Will turn 25 as an NFL rookie
Projection
A two-year starter at Auburn, Wright was a fixture at right guard in former head coach Hugh Freeze’s balanced (gap and zone) scheme.
A sixth-year prospect, he bounced between the offensive and defensive lines his first few seasons on The Plains before becoming a
full-time starter over his junior and senior seasons.
Wright is big, strong and wants to move people off the ball on combos and base blocks. He looks to overpower anything in his way,
which is understandable for a former defensive lineman, but he’s still learning to introduce more skill into his play. He works hard to
stay square in pass pro but has shaky moments responding to savvy rushers. Overall, Wright is still developing his recovery
skills, but he is a heavy, physical presence who can anchor and end reps once he latches. His power and intangibles
make him a worthy draft-and-develop guard in a gap scheme.
