Strengths
● Get-off and lateral quickness allow for immediate inside/outside wins
● High-effort rusher, with flattening skills to find quickest path to the quarterback
● Good forward bend to dip and make himself a small target for blockers
● Hands are fast and violent to swipe away blocker’s reach
● Introduces cross-chop and flash-rip moves to pry himself off contact
● Better play strength in run game than most 245-pounders
● Quick to read as an unblocked defender to limit zone runs
● Pursuit from backside surprises scrambling quarterbacks
● Understands his journey is unusual and doesn’t seem to take it for granted
● Head-turning backfield production in 2025
Weaknesses
● Light-framed defender — lacks ideal body mass and arm length
● Good initial strike but can be engulfed by larger blockers
● Only adequate core power; can be pushed beyond the pocket
● Mediocre finishing strength as a tackler
● Inexperienced as a peel/drop player in coverage
● Accountability questions kept him off the field at Houston, according to NFL scouts
● Only one season as a full-time starter in the FBS
● Will be a 26-year-old rookie
Projection
A one-year starter at Western Michigan, Tucker was the field edge rusher (two-point stance) in former defensive coordinator Chris
O’Leary’s scheme. (The Los Angeles Chargers hired O'Leary as their defensive coordinator following the 2025 season.) After he started
playing football as a senior in high school, Tucker spent three years at the juco level and three more at Houston, although he played just
161 combined defensive snaps in his Cougars career. He transferred to Western Michigan in 2025 and helped the team to its first MAC
Championship, while leading the FBS in sacks per game (1.12), tackles for loss per game (1.62) and pass rush win percentage (28.4
percent).
Tucker is a truly unique prospect because of his journey, and NFL teams will need to contextualize why he didn’t produce until his
age-25 season in the MAC. He is quick off the ball and can turn the corner with serious closing speed. His heavy double swipe helps him
create his own rush paths, and his active play style helps compensate for his compact frame and mediocre length and strength. Overall,
Tucker might never be well-rounded enough to be an NFL starter, but his high-effort pass rush can earn him a
subpackage role. There is enough that NFL coaches will want to work with in his game, so long as Tucker stays
committed.
