Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Rocked-up physique, with shredded arms and toned lower body ● Added 20 pounds after arriving at Florida; took full advantage of every resource ● Flashes burst off the ball when he times up the snap ● Rushes with contact balance to attack gaps and pry open paths to QB ● Displays hip fluidity to sink/dip at the top of his rush ● Physical enforcer in run game, blowing up pullers and creating negative plays ● Run-game anchor is much improved from 2024 tape ● Doesn’t look out of place as a drop player asked to cover areas ● Brings same energy every day — still works like a walk-on
Weaknesses
● Needs to get better in hand-to-hand combat as a pass rusher ● Rush arsenal (specifically, his counters) lacks cohesiveness ● Snap anticipation must improve to maximize explosive traits ● Gets too high on bull-rush attempts ● Leans too much on physicality, not enough on strategy ● Below-average pass-rush production, both over his career and in 2025 ● Caught staring at the quarterback and loses his man in zone ● Missed three games as a senior because of injury, including final two after surgery to repair meniscus in right knee (Nov. 2025)
Projection
A starter for one-and-a-half years at Florida (and two-and-a-half-years overall), Gumbs spent time at the SAM and JACK linebacker spots (two-point stance) in former defensive coordinator Ron Roberts’ hybrid front. A former walk-on at wide receiver, he transitioned to edge rusher at Northern Illinois in 2023 before transferring to Gainesville (Gators coaches saw his inexperience as providing them with a “blank canvas.”) His presence was felt more on tape than the stat sheet (13 pressures in 2025, sixth most among Florida defenders). Graded as a “no money” undrafted free agent prospect by NFL teams last summer, Gumbs has consistently stayed the course and trusted his work ethic, resulting in improved on-field performance. Though his pass rush lacks complexity, he has flexibility in his ankles and hips to bend and grind down blockers’ edges. He is a bull as a run defender, with the toughness that raises his floor. 366 Back to table of contents -- 370 of 629 -- Overall, Gumbs is more talented than skilled in his edge duties, but he is explosive, physical and selfless against the run. Because of his resiliency and competitive makeup, he is a worthy developmental option.
