Strengths
● Developed bulk on smaller frame, with muscular arms and thick hips
● Accelerates well from stationary position to get going quickly
● Runs with vision to press, cut and go
68 Back to table of contents
-- 72 of 629 --
● Flashed home-run gear on underclassman tape (60 combined runs of 10-plus yards as a freshman and sophomore)
● Runs low with adequate balance through contact
● Steady hands as a pass catcher on screens and swing routes
● Holds his own in pass pro, framing rushers and getting the job done (impressed at Senior Bowl)
● Averaged 21.7 yards on kick returns, including a 100-yard score as a sophomore
● Both programs he played for speak highly about his maturity away from the field
Weaknesses
● Marginal production and consistency over past 2 seasons
● NFL scouts have questioned his grit and ability to grind out minor injuries
● Not a power runner — lackluster leg drive to trample defenders
● Inconsistent ability to finish runs falling forward
● Runs with better confidence when he has clear point of entry
● Average open-field elusiveness
● Missed 3 games (and parts of several others) because of sprained ankle (Sept. 2024); nursed shoulder injury entering 2025 season
and saw meaningful action in just two games
Projection
A backup at Oklahoma, Ott struggled to find a role in offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle’s zone-based run scheme. He started to
receive early-round grades from NFL scouts based on his freshman and sophomore seasons at Cal. After injuries in 2024 put his career
on hold, he transferred to Norman for his senior season, which was supposed to be his big comeback. But a nagging shoulder injury
hobbled him early in year, and he couldn’t make up ground on the Sooners’ depth chart (played only 75 total snaps at Oklahoma).
Ott is a perplexing evaluation, because his underclassman tape shows an NFL player, but his junior and senior seasons can’t be ignored.
A muscled-up athlete, he is a pick-and-slide runner and has explosive acceleration to create big plays once he finds a clear rush track.
He doesn’t have an ideal frame for between-the-tackles work and can be dinged up. Overall, Ott is a bursty, one-cut runner, with
the versatility to add value on third downs and special teams as a kick returner. However, NFL teams wary of his
durability and toughness will look elsewhere.
