Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Strapping frame, with adequate arm length and bulk throughout ● Functional quickness in his setup and short-pull movements ● Sturdy to anchor at shallow depth and absorb bull rushers ● Strong punch; uses his extension to lock out ● Great communication skills and works well in tandem ● Able to push defenders from their gaps to pry open run lanes ● Carries himself like an alpha, on and off the field (Taylor: “I just show up every day with the same mentality.”) ● Voted a senior captain and had respect of teammates (NFL scout: “Will be one of the most mature guys in the locker room the moment he’s drafted.”) ● Logged multiple starts at four different offensive line positions (everywhere but center)
Weaknesses
● Plays tall and has inconsistent knee bend ● Average reaction quickness on an island when trying to match edge speed ● Works hard to play centered but gets caught leaning and can be pulled from his balance ● Only average pop on angle-drive blocks ● Inconsistent body control on the move or when cutting off linebackers ● Battled through a torn labrum in hip during first season at Virginia and eventually underwent surgery (Dec. 2021), which sidelined him for 2022 spring practices; missed season opener of junior season (Aug. 2024) with an injury 276 Back to table of contents -- 280 of 629 --
Projection
A four-year starter at Boston College, Taylor played mostly guard in head coach Bill O’Brien’s pro-style, balanced offense. Despite having only one year of experience on the offensive line before college, he was willing to (and reliable when he did) move wherever the coaches needed, so they could get their best five linemen on the field. He is one of the few prospects in this draft class that can say he has logged 100-plus snaps at four of the five offensive line positions. (Taylor: “I’m going to do whatever the coaches want me to do.”) Taylor plays with the type of strong, rugged demeanor that has a high transition rate at the next level. Though not an elite athlete, he marries his hat, feet and hands with ready-to-go hand carriage and accurate placement. Despite his upright style, his strength allows him to absorb and redirect force, although he won’t overpower at the point of attack. Overall, Taylor doesn’t play with consistent leverage or power, but he is intelligent, tough and competitive as a short-area base blocker. Similar to Brandon Linder, he projects best as a blocker in a phone booth at guard and a potential emergency flex outside at tackle.
