Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Muscular back with adequate bulk in his upper body and quads ● Runs hard with decisive angles and contact balance ● Stays square through the hole with acceleration to attack second level ● Sets up blocks with cutting quickness off his plant foot ● Maintains integrity of the blocking design and doesn’t veer off course ● Fumbled only twice on 840 career offensive touches ● Capable pass catcher and drops are infrequent (one over his final 31 games) ● Quickly gets upfield after the catch and maximizes yardage available ● Durable and consistently produced, with almost 3,500 career rushing yards 61 Back to table of contents -- 65 of 629 --
Weaknesses
● Mediocre run power and not a push-the-pile back ● Only average wiggle and lateral shake ● Runs with hints of stiffness and straight-line tendencies ● Below-average creativity on the second level (just 1.7 percent of his 2025 carries resulted in a 20-plus-yard gain) ● Willing in pass pro but technique and awareness are inconsistent ● Late to recover as a blocker — one false move feels like a death sentence ● Averaged just 3.8 yards per carry during the Big Ten Championship Game and College Football Playoff
Projection
A one-year starter at Indiana (but four-year starter overall), Hemby was the lead back in offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan’s balanced zone/gap scheme. He led his home state Maryland in rushing for three straight seasons before the Terps decided to move on, which was painful for Hemby in the moment but turned out for the best. Hemby landed at Indiana for the 2025 season and led the Hoosiers in rushing, which boosted his draft profile as he won a national title. With his physical, downhill run style, Hemby isn’t shy hitting it up between the tackles. He isn’t as dynamic as you’d want a 205-pound back to be, but he can get the angle on pursuit with his sharp, quick cuts. Being your team’s leading rusher four straight seasons is no small feat, although Hemby needs to show more development as a blocker. Overall, Hemby is a linear back with only average vision and power, but he is a decisive runner with acceleration to clear holes and get downhill. His pass-catching ability and contributions as a kick returner could help separate him at the back end of an NFL running back depth chart.
