David Gusta

David Gusta was born and raised in San Bernardino, Calif. His younger brother (Devon), a defensive back, was his teammate at Kentucky in 2025. David grew up playing in the Grand Terrace Jr. All American Football youth leagues and then attended Grand Terrace High School. He was a standout defensive lineman for three years before transferring to Cajon High School for his senior season (he was also a standout wrestler in high school). A three-star recruit, he originally committed to Fresno State before flipping to Washington State. After four seasons in Pullman (two as a starter), he transferred to Kentucky for his senior year and averaged 34 defensive snaps per game in 2025. Gusta is a densely built nose, with thickness in his arms and lower body. He plays low and wide to establish leverage using contact balance and strong hands (his wrestling experience shows on the field). His short arms make it tough to keep blockers’ hands off him, but he answers with violent and strong hands, which help him shed the point of attack. His struggles to quickly change directions and finish plays have contributed to his below-average stats. Overall, Gusta wasn’t productive in college, but he did flash disruption, and he plays with the physicality and foot quickness that make you believe he can be impactful as part of an NFL rotation. He projects as a depth piece at zero-/one-technique.
