Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Adequate height and muscle tone in arms, chest and lower body ● Outstanding athlete for the position; thrives with read-option and designed runs ● Only Power 4 quarterback in 2025 with five games of 100-plus yards passing and 100-plus yards rushing ● Physicality doesn’t faze him — has a case for being toughest player in the draft class ● Throws a very catchable ball with discernable touch ● Can work inside a muddy pocket and change throwing platforms ● Improved decision-maker; has learned not to force things that aren’t there 17 Back to table of contents -- 21 of 629 -- ● Interception-worthy plays dropped from 17 in 2023 to combined seven over past two seasons ● Natural fit in the locker room; teammates follow him (just the second three-time team captain in school history) ● Prepares like the son of a coach and is “as dedicated a quarterback as I’ve ever worked with,” according to Weinke ● Rewrote school record books — accounted for 10,184 total yards in three seasons at Georgia Tech
Weaknesses
● Methodical, elongated release ● Average arm strength — shoulder health might affect velocity ● Needs to improve read timing while keeping his feet tied with route concepts ● Feet tend to get jittery late in the down, leading to dropped eyes ● Nineteen fumbles in three seasons at Georgia Tech ● Takes punishment, which leads to durability concerns: missed one game as a super senior because of lower-body injury (Sept. 2025) and played through a shoulder injury; played through torn labrum in right shoulder throughout much of 2024 season; fractured tibia in right leg (Sept. 2021), which required season-ending surgery ● Will be a 25-year-old rookie (older for his grade because he repeated fifth grade)
Projection
A three-year starter at Georgia Tech, King was a dual-threat presence in former offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner’s balanced scheme (under center and in the gun), using different quarterback run-game and option concepts. After injuries derailed his time at Texas A&M, he transferred and ultimately became Georgia Tech’s record holder for career touchdowns (91) and completions (674), while under the tutelage of quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke. King led Georgia Tech in 2025 in both passing and rushing, and he finished No. 3 in the FBS in total yards (325.3 per game), which earned him ACC Player of the Year (joined Calvin Johnson as the only two Georgia Tech players to finish top 10 in Heisman voting since 2000). From a physical standpoint, King has adequate size and an arm to match, with the competitive spirit that translates to production. Though he anticipates well on isolation and one-read concepts, his passing execution plummets when the first read isn’t there. He is a football junkie, and his above-average athleticism adds an extra element to an offense that opponents must defend. Overall, King needs to see things much clearer and faster to make it at the NFL level, but his competitive toughness, dual-threat skill set and diligence as a worker give him a chance to become an NFL backup.
