A two-year starter at Arkansas (and four-year starter overall), Carmona lined up at left guard in former offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino’s balanced spread scheme. He played only a half season of high school ball as a tight end before transitioning to the offensive line at San Jose State. He started 49 games over the past four seasons and made a seamless transition from left tackle to guard as a senior, taking home All-SEC honors. When studying Carmona’s tape, it doesn’t take long to pick up on his tenacious demeanor, which shows up regardless of score or situation. He stays persistent with his hands to latch, sustain and recover versus different types of pass rushers, although he needs to do a better job keeping blocks centered to deflect heat from his edges. His stubborn hands and short-area quickness also benefit him in the run game, helping him mask mediocre body control and range. Overall, Carmona has a very average physical skill set, but his stalwart competitiveness and versatile experience are qualities that will speak to NFL coaches. He projects as a swing backup who can provide depth across the offensive line.
