Scouting Dossier
Strengths
● Tall, long athlete with outstanding straight-line speed
● Works well from press and uses his length to jam
● Flashes traits to mirror and carry deep routes
● Plays from a balanced platform for quick transitions
● Good zone eyes to decipher route combinations
● Able to close space in a hurry; did a better job influencing the catch point in 2025
● Looks to lay licks in the run game and plays with emotional and physical resiliency
● Blocked field goal and extra-point attempt; regular on punt coverages past two seasons
● Football is all he knows — when he says he loves it, you can tell he means it
Weaknesses
● Bow-legged with narrow torso and lean muscle definition
● Doesn’t have a natural feel for getting his head turned to find the football
● Marginal ball skills (13 touchdowns allowed, zero career interceptions)
● Trusts instincts on some plays but not others
● Inconsistent tempo reacting to cross-face routes

● More tough than he is strong; needs to be quicker to rid himself of blocks
● Torn ACL in right knee and both menisci (September 2019) and sidelined for junior year of high school
Projection
A two-year starter at Houston, McCutchin was an outside cornerback in defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong’s man/zone scheme.
He had stops at Oklahoma and USC before finding a home with the Cougars. His coverage skills took a clear jump on the 2025 tape,
although his failure to record an interception (in 48 career games) sticks out like a sore thumb.
McCutchin has the length and speed to operate from press looks and run with receivers up and down the field. However, his route
recognition and ball awareness are inconsistent at this point in his development. He can sort through route concepts from off coverage
but needs to do a better job putting himself in position to take away the football. Overall, McCutchin has NFL-level athletic traits
and passionate toughness for the game, but his coverage anticipation needs to catch up quickly once he gets into
camp. He has the tools to compete for a job on punt coverages (vice), as well.
