Strengths
● Big-boned frame with lean definition
● Springy lower body — good short-area range and quickness
● Uses size and physicality to cover up on pulls and second-level blocks
● Generates enough torque to seal on angle-drive blocks
● Brings same aggressive mindset on each play
● Stout base and strong grip to strain in pass pro
● Decent weight distribution to latch and ride the bull vs. shifty rushers
● Well-respected teammate; coaching staff raved about his approach to practice
● Durable and has played a lot of football (55 career starts)
Weaknesses
● Shorter arms, with below-average girth in his lower half
● Inconsistent answers vs. savvy rushers who can tempo their moves
● Needs to tighten angles to improve his sustain chances
● Overaggressive aiming points in run game
● 98.3 percent of college snaps came at right guard; unproven at other spots
● Torn labrum in spring of 2021, which sidelined him for 2021 season; missed first two games of 2022 season because of turf toe (he
was frustrated to miss 2022 Iowa game, because his mother is an Iowa alum)
● Will be a 26-year-old NFL rookie, with only one season of FBS experience
Projection
A one-year starter at Northwestern (and four-year starter overall), Beerntsen played right guard in former offensive coordinator Zach
Lujan’s zone-centric scheme. He played six years at South Dakota State and was a starter for back-to-back FCS national championship
teams in 2022 and 2023 (Lujan was an assistant on those teams). He made a smooth transition after transferring up for his final season
and earned 2025 All-Big Ten honors (logged 3,360 career offensive snaps).
Beerntsen brings a punishing presence to the football field, although overaggressive tendencies are also a theme. He flashes a physical,
nasty demeanor in the run game, with efficient footwork and brute strength. His lack of length shows in pass protection. He also can be
late reacting to stunts and delayed blitzes, but his punch hands and anchor are unwavering. Overall, Beerntsen needs to be more
consistent with his sustain skills, but he is a mean, aggressive blocker with functional quickness and toughness.
Although his lack of positional versatility works against him, he will be ready to compete for a backup role from day
one.
