Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Evenly distributed bulk throughout his tall frame ● Clean early in route and will make defenders pay for free releases ● Paces build-up speed to poke holes in zone coverage ● Savvy at break points — knows how to set up defenders ● Plays strong through contact to win 50-50 balls (see first play of 2025 WVU tape) ● Physical after the catch and grinds out more yards than expected ● Mature and magnetic personality — connects with everyone in the locker room ● Two-time team captain; leads by example in the way he works ● Tough as nails — consistently strains through injuries
Weaknesses
● Lacks vertical speed to threaten defenses deep ● Separating from tight coverage will be a tough task vs. NFL athletes ● Missing second gear when ball is in the air ● Physical corners in press man or at the tops of routes can bog him down ● More body catches than ideal ● Drop rate (12.9 percent) surprisingly spiked in 2025 (up from 5.5 percent in 2024) ● Lack of top-end speed will limit run-after-catch potential ● Hip surgery in 2021 to repair an issue from high school ● Older prospect — will be 25 on draft weekend
Projection
A three-year starter at BYU, Roberts was primarily an outside receiver (68.1 percent of snaps) in offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick’s scheme. He quickly integrated himself in the Cougars’ offense and posted consistent production when on the field. Roberts wouldn’t see the field if teams only played the fastest wide receivers on their rosters. But pro coaches will appreciate his route instincts and compete skills to finish catches through contact, which could get him a look as early as his rookie season. There will be a trust level there. His toughness also stands out, although you’d wish there was an extra gear for when he faces man-to-man looks. 140 Back to table of contents -- 144 of 629 -- Overall, Roberts lacks ideal speed and separation skills, which are tough hurdles to clear in the NFL, but his crafty NFL-ready skill set will have value as a possession target for the right situation.
