Scouting Dossier

Projection
Kolbey Taylor originally grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he started playing football at age 12. He later relocated to the Houston area and attended Alvin High School, before transferring to Pasadena Memorial High School. He earned all-district honors as a junior safety, while also seeing snaps at receiver (he also lettered in track). A three-star recruit, Taylor received his first offer from FCS Central Arkansas and also heard from Houston before Wyoming extended an offer midway through his senior season. He played both cornerback and safety over three years at Wyoming before transferring to Vanderbilt for his junior and senior seasons. Taylor is a three-time member of the “Freaks List” — he has springs in his legs and rare body length. He moves with lower-body quickness and long strides in coverage but struggles to maintain his balance transitioning with receivers. He can be drawn out of position by savvy route runners, especially on double moves, which leaves him grabbing to recover. He comfortably tracks the football on some plays and looks lost on others. He has the physicality to stick ball carriers, but his consistency as a tackler must improve. Overall, Taylor is inconsistent with his technique and processing in both phases, but he is an explosive athlete with a wingspan that makes offensive linemen jealous.
