Scouting Dossier

Projection
Christopher “Chris” Hilton Jr. grew up north of Baton Rouge, La., with his parents (Chris Sr. and Cindy), who were both track athletes at Southern University. Hilton was a standout football and track star at Zachary High, where he won several state titles in sprints and jumps (personal best of 10.85 seconds in the 100-meter dash). 155 Back to table of contents -- 159 of 629 -- A four-star recruit, he was the top-ranked receiver in LSU’s 2021 class (ahead of Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.). Multiple injuries sidetracked his early career, however, as he struggled to find a consistent role beyond being a deep threat. Hilton looks like a sprinter with his slender, lean-muscled frame and uses his speed to stretch the field. A limited snap count hindered his ability to develop as a route runner, and he was also up and down with his hands — his success rate nosedived when defenders crowded his air space. He has limited return experience but played more on special teams in 2025. Overall, Hilton’s NFL grade is based entirely on speed and potential, as he couldn’t put together a full season as a starter at LSU (mostly because of injuries). He is a developmental vertical threat — but needs a lot of work.

Freak Notes

  • Feldman-Freaks-2025 · #32
Five years ago, Hilton was the highest-ranked of the Tigers’ ridiculously talented wide receiver class that included NFL first-rounders Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers and second-rounder Jack Bech. Hilton, an elite track athlete, has battled many injuries in his career but is expected to have a big 2025. He missed most of last season with an ankle injury, but has flashed his big-play potential. In the Texas Bowl against Baylor, he caught seven passes for 113 yards. He’s had 31 catches in his career with seven going for at least 40 yards, with five TDs. The 6-0, 190-pound senior, a former three-time Louisiana state high jump champion, has hit 23.7 mph on the GPS, an all-time LSU record. He also has clocked a 1.37 10-yard split off of a 1-yard lead-in, another program record, and he’s timed in the high 4.2s in the 40. On a team with plenty of Freaky receivers, including track star Jelani Watkins and Barion Brown, coaches say this is the program’s biggest Freak.
