Scouting Dossier
Projection
Jack Strand grew up in western Wisconsin with his parents (Jim and Veronica). He was a multisport athlete, including basketball and
baseball (threw two perfect games his senior year), at Bloomer High School. He was a productive, all-region quarterback, but he
struggled to get noticed as a Division I recruit, mainly because of his team’s run-heavy offense (and that he came from a smaller town).
He landed at Division II Minnesota State Moorhead and earned the starting job as a true freshman. He quickly became an All-American
and shattered all the school’s passing records. Despite likely interest from FCS and FBS programs had he entered the transfer portal, he
chose to stay with the program that developed him.
He is on track to graduate with a degree in engineering physics (3.87 GPA) and was a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
A big-boned, sturdy passer, Strand has a live arm but a funky, sidearmed release. His accuracy is adequate, but his ball placement must
be more consistent when attacking small-window throws. He tends to “arm” most of his throws, especially to his left, and needs to be
more aware of getting his footwork and hips aligned. He can throw with anticipation and isn’t shy about throwing to spots, although he
needs to take better care of the ball (double-digit interceptions each season). Though he can throw from off-platform releases, he is an
average athlete and isn’t very creative with his legs. The coaches gave him a lot of responsibility at the line to make checks and change
plays. Overall, Strand obviously faces a major jump in competition, but he has an intriguing developmental skill set
with a whip for an arm, promising field vision and the processing to spread the ball around the field.
