Projection
Marvin Jones Jr. was raised in the Miami area by his parents (Marvin and Alexsandra). His father was an All-America linebacker at
Florida State and a first-round pick (No. 4) in the 1993 NFL Draft. He played 11 NFL seasons, all for the New York Jets; he’s currently
the head coach of the Indoor Football League's Tulsa Oilers. Marvin Jones Jr. grew up on the football field and naturally followed in his
father’s footsteps. He attended American Heritage High School, where he was an all-state performer at edge rusher and tight end for
former NFL cornerback Patrick Surtain Sr. He posted 13 sacks as a junior and helped the program win a 2020 state championship.
A five-star recruit, Jones was a consensus top-25 prospect in the country — every school was after his commitment. He began his career
at Georgia (and won a national championship in 2022) but entered the portal after two seasons and enrolled at Florida State, his
childhood dream school (and father’s alma mater). However, he lasted just one season in Tallahassee before going back into the portal
and committing to Oklahoma (over Ohio State and Texas) for his senior year.
With his frame and tools, it isn’t hard to see why Jones was a five-star recruit. He has long, muscular arms, with good speed for the
position that lets him close on the quarterback once he finds a rush track or show off his range while chasing down runners on the
outside. He appears more comfortable rushing from a two-point stance, likely because of a lack of flexibility. His hand usage and
counter moves are currently underdeveloped. He struggles with pad level and aggressiveness as an edge setter versus the run. Overall,
Jones has the body type, bloodlines and raw talent to warrant draft consideration, but the tape doesn’t show a
consistently physical or impactful player.
