Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Adequate height, with broad shoulders and decent definition ● Flashes some juice in lower half, which is reflected in his vertical and broad jump (also won high school state triple jump championship) ● Loves go routes, on which he can stretch out his stride and gain a step vertically ● Savvy ability to run stick-and-nod routes and create a window for the quarterback ● Hands catcher with tracking adjustment skills ● Can climb the ladder when needed to eat a meal off the top of defender’s helmet ● Smooth mover with the ball in his hands ● Learning how to be a leader, but NFL scouts describe him as a “hard worker” and an “accountable guy” ● Capable blocker — has a basic understanding of how to use his frame
Weaknesses
● Needs to get stronger (and play stronger), especially in contested windows ● Lacks ideal suddenness in releases when trying to avoid press ● Feet can get tied up at times when trying to manipulate corners ● His 2024 tape showed a RAC weapon; his 2025 tape did not ● Just 48.6 percent of catches resulted in either first down or touchdown in 2025 ● Doesn’t offer anything on special teams ● Missed two games early in senior season with minor shoulder injury (Sept. 2025)
Projection
A two-year starter at Incarnate Word, Walthall was an outside wide receiver (90.7 percent of snaps) in former offensive coordinator Kenny Hill’s scheme. After his situation at Hawaii didn’t work out, he found a home in San Antonio at the FCS level, where he thrived in 2024, setting a school record for receiving yards (1,290). After his quarterback (Zach Calzada) and play caller (Conner McQueen) both departed, his 2025 production took a slight dip. 143 Back to table of contents -- 147 of 629 -- Despite not facing an FBS opponent over the last two seasons, Walthall consistently jumped out on tape as you would hope. He is at his best working versus soft man/zone, where he can use savvy burst and body fakes to give his quarterback a window. He posted an outstanding touchdown-to-drop ratio (22-to-3) at Incarnate Word, thanks to his ability to expand his catch radius. That said, dealing with NFL physicality will be a tough hill to climb. Overall, Walthall is an average size-speed-strength athlete, but his route quickness and adjustment ability are translatable qualities. He will compete for a WR 4/5 role in training camp.

Freak Notes

  • Feldman-Freaks-2025 · #94
NFL scouts are very interested in Walthall. The 6-1 1/2, 198-pound Walthall, who won a Texas state title in the triple jump with a leap of 50 feet, 4 inches, began his college career at Hawaii. In his first season at UIW, he had 70 catches for 1,290 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. Walthall vertical jumped 40 inches this summer and broad jumped 10-7. He’s also hit 22 mph on the GPS and power cleaned 290 pounds.
