Scouting Dossier

PFF
Strengths
● Physically impressive with packed-on muscle to his compact frame ● Twitchy mover with good bend and balance in space ● Springy quickness, and accelerates impressively well for his size ● Has range to work up and down the line to chase ball carriers ● More strong than powerful; has done a better job holding his ground ● Flashes heavy hands when he unleashes rip, swipe and cross-chop moves ● Experienced on the edge and can be useful on stunts and games ● Awarded a single-digit jersey for his work ethic and focused mentality ● Busts his butt in weight/training room and maximizes himself
Weaknesses
● Average arm length — struggles to win through extension ● Can be dumped in run game when caught playing high ● Gets shoulders turned by double teams ● Hands, feet and hips lack cohesion as a pass rusher, leaving him stuck on blocks ● Underdeveloped counters ● Too many missed tackles on tape
Projection
A two-year starter at Baylor, Marshall lined up primarily as a three-/4i-technique in head coach Dave Aranda’s multiple fronts. A high school linebacker, he initially played the jack position in Waco before continuing to add weight and moving closer to the ball. He posted a promising 28 pressures as a junior, but that number decreased to 11 as a senior. A face-of-the-program player, Marshall fills out his uniform well with smooth, compact muscle from head to toe. He is quick off the ball and has strength in his hands, but he lacks refinement as a pass rusher, which is reflected in his lack of backfield production. He offers pursuit skills as a run defender but isn’t a true stack-and-shed player, which hinders his playmaking ability. Overall, Marshall is a limber big man with intriguing upside when you grade to his flashes, though his inconsistencies in the run game must be addressed. Hopefully, he’ll land with a defensive-line coach who sees the vision and invests in getting more out of him.
