Scouting Dossier
PFF
Strengths
● Athletic big man with lean features and smooth muscle tone
● Quickly sets up shop and stays light on his feet
● Solid technique in pass sets to strike and rework his hands
● Works hard to stay centered with his hands and hips
● Has body twitch to recover when caught out of position
● Rangy in the run game for short and long pulls
● Decent batting average picking off linebackers at the second level
● Strains through the whistle and prides himself on finishing
● Durable player (49 starts on his college resume)
Weaknesses
● Shorter-than-ideal arms, regardless of position
● Play strength and anchor feel more like works in progress than finished product
● Overeager hands; base will get caught wide vs. shifty rushers
● Savvy defenders will pull him off balance
● Hints of stiffness in his lower half
● Inconsistent processing through stunts and games
● Lacks force behind his run hands to easily remove defenders from his path
● Experienced at both tackle and guard but unlikely to play outside in the NFL
Projection
A three-year starter at Auburn (and four-year starter overall), Wade lined up at left guard in former head coach Hugh Freeze’s balanced
(gap and zone) scheme. After cutting his teeth at Tulsa, he moved to the SEC and then shifted from position to position as the Tigers
attempted to get their best five linemen on the field. He logged 750-plus offensive snaps in each of the past four seasons.
With his initial quickness and movement ability, Wade can quickly gain the upper hand in pass pro or be an asset on pulls/climbs in the
run game. He fits with adequate technique, but spotty power allows his balance to be disrupted by defenders who know what they are
doing. In the run game, he gets where he is going in a hurry but doesn’t consistently uproot his targets. Overall, Wade is an athletic
big man with the foot quickness to cover up defenders, although his average strength saps his ability to control
blocks. Despite most of his college starts coming at tackle, he projects as an inside-only — and a zone-only — lineman
in the NFL.
