Scouting Dossier

Projection
Jalen Christopher McMurray was born in Silver Spring, Md., with his parents (Alfred and Anne), who both attended Maryland. His younger sister (Camryn) is a sophomore track athlete at Towson. He has two uncles (Alan McMurray and Anthony McMurray) who played college football at Tennessee State and West Virginia, respectively. Jalen McMurray grew up training with quarterback and friend Caleb Williams throughout middle and high school. He attended Gonzaga College High School, a private Catholic school in Washington D.C., where he was in the same class as Williams. He was a three-year starter in the secondary and earned first-team all-conference honors (with a team-best four interceptions) in 2019. A three-star recruit, he committed to Temple and became the first freshman there in almost a decade to earn a single-digit jersey. After three years in the program, he entered the transfer portal and committed to Tennessee for his final two seasons. Despite his lack of length, McMurray loves to mix things up and disrupt the cadence of route runners. He is a smooth mover from press, with a good understanding of combinations and spacing. His toughness shows in his tackling and resolve to battle through injuries — he pushed himself to play in the 2025 bowl game, despite not being healthy, because “it was important for me to leave everything on the field. … I didn’t want my teammates to think I quit on them.” Overall, McMurray is an undersized, but feisty nickel, with the athletic fluidity and route instincts to play competitively against size or speed.
