Scouting Dossier

Projection
Dontayvious “DT” Sheffield grew up in Corinth, Miss., and started playing football at age 6. Despite being the smallest player on the field, he was a quarterback at Corinth High School and earned all-state honors as a senior, with 36 total touchdowns (20 passing, 16 rushing). He led Corinth to a 14-1 record and the 2019 Class 4A state title. A no-star recruit, he enrolled at Northwest Mississippi Community College and made the transition to wide receiver, a position he’d never played. After spending the 2023 season at Washington State, he transferred to North Texas and emerged as an All-AAC performer in 2024. He transferred to Rutgers for the 2025 season. A slot-only receiver in college, Sheffield has a short, slight frame but accelerates to top speed in the first few steps, making it tough for defenders to match his burst. He can easily stack corners and create vertical separation on slot fades. His coordination allows him to track, adjust and run under the football, although his focus drops are frustrating. His cuts are concise and sharp, which shows in his routes and after the catch. He also returned punts at North Texas (but not at Rutgers). Overall, Sheffield is a smallish target who needs to cut down on drops, but his suddenness and speed make him a true three-level threat.
