Scouting Dossier

Strengths
● Proportionate mass, with longer arms/wing than most his height ● Strong extension to keep powerful defensive tackles at bay ● Adequate hands and base to absorb bull-rush attempts ● Flashes power on down blocks to create push in the run game ● Decent first-step movements to fit and secure lanes ● Capable on vertical climbs, where he can close on targets ● Described as “bright” and a “vocal leader” behind the scenes, according to a Texas team source ● An iron man — started 43 straight games to finish his college career
Weaknesses
● Mediocre twitch athlete by NFL standards and on the ground too much ● Not explosive as a puller and can be late to his spot ● Needs to do a better job keeping his run blocks centered ● Lacks ideal agility — often late to cut off A-gap pressures ● Has tough time recovering once his edges are exposed ● Seemed to run out of gas late in some games ● Unproven versatility (99.9 percent of college starts came at right guard)
Projection
A three-year starter at Texas, Campbell was a mainstay at right guard in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s multiple-based scheme. A former five-star recruit, he broke into the starting lineup ahead of his sophomore year and didn’t miss a start the next three seasons. He played his most consistent ball as a senior and earned All-SEC honors. A wide-based blocker, Campbell uses his long arms and leg drive to create movement in the run game. He can function on the move but lacks ideal balance as a space athlete, which likely will limit his landing spots in the NFL. As a pass blocker, he has decent setup quickness, but NFL subpackage rushers will quickly put that to the test — his feet can be late keeping up when his upper half is engaged. Overall, Campbell needs to continue refining his technique to cover up his warts, but he has the talent and toughness to fit a downhill, gap-centric scheme. He projects as an NFL backup.
