Scouting Dossier

Projection
Hayden Large grew up in Hudsonville, Mich., with his parents (Forrest and Jennifer). He attended Unity Christian High School, where he played tight end, running back, linebacker and safety. He earned all-state honors as a junior, with 1,272 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, while adding 60 tackles and two interceptions on a team that finished 12-2 and won a state championship. He missed his senior year because of a left knee injury. A no-star recruit, Large played at Dordt (Iowa) University, an NAIA program. After three years as a starting tight end, he entered the transfer portal and received a walk-on opportunity at Iowa. He played fullback, tight end and on special teams for the Hawkeyes. Described as the “heart and soul” of the program, Large finished his three-year Iowa stint with only 14 catches (and zero touchdowns), but his impact was felt much more on tape than the stat sheet. As a run blocker, he can be effective on iso-lead or pulls, locating his target and arriving with physicality to drive his man off the spot. He is a decent athlete and shows body control and coordination, both in his blocking duties and as a route runner. He appears to catch the ball well but is unproven in tight windows. His football character is off the charts — he will do whatever is needed, no questions asked. Overall, Large plays a hybrid H-back position that might 214 Back to table of contents -- 218 of 629 -- not fit every NFL scheme. He will have a chance to make a roster, however, because of his impact as a blocker and on special teams.
