Scouting Dossier

Projection
David Blay Jr. grew up outside of Philadelphia and attended Harry S. Truman High School in Levittown, Pa. He played on the offensive and defensive lines and put himself on the recruiting radar as a junior. However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his recruitment, so he landed at nearby Division II West Chester (west of Philadelphia). After redshirting in 2021, he delivered a standout 2022 season, entered the transfer portal and received an offer from Louisiana Tech. After an All-CUSA 2024 season, he went back into the portal ahead of his final season and received more than a dozen high-profile offers, including from Oklahoma, USC and Penn State. But he felt at home after a visit to Miami and helped the Hurricanes make their run to the national title game this past season. Blay has a workable frame, with dense arms and a midsection to match, but mediocre length. He stays light on his feet for a big man, with the short-area quicks and active hands to swipe/rip his way through gaps. He can burst through gaps in the run game, and although he leaves too many tackles on the field, he helps flush production to other defenders. He reads and reacts well to stay ahead, or on time, against run blocks. His snap anticipation must improve — he had five offside flags in 2025. Overall, Blay needs to be more purposeful with his hands in all phases, but his short-area quickness could land him in an NFL rotation after time on the practice squad.
